CSUN 2021 - 2022 Planner

Objective

During my time at Associated Students, one of my final projects was to design the cover for the 2021-2022 academic year planner. CSUN was celebrating 60 years since it was first established, leading the design to pull from 1960 inspiration. I worked closely with the marketing manager, executive director, and team at Associated Students.

The final product was distributed to the students of CSUN, reaching a number of 38,500 that had enrolled for the 2021 fall semester.

During the design research process, we looked into an archive of CSUN photos and elements from the 60s. For the first round of drafts, prior to receiving a note to stay on brand with CSUN, we explored different options. I created a mood board with different image inspirations, and colors picked from those images as well as a reimagining the CSUN mark.

The goal for the final design was to make sure we incorporated CSUN brand colors into a 60s-inspired college design. The final CSUN wordmark used a typeface that is often used throughout college apparel & design. We added an image of the school mascot statue that is located on our college campus. To represent a 60s element, we used groovy flowers that are layered upon the image of the mascot.

The planner was distributed by Associated Students during the first month of the 2021-2022 academic school year. There were social media posts created by the social media team to promote the planner. The planner was available for pick up at the office and any student was welcome to grab one.
